This project is part of a $1.5 billion upgrade of RAAF Base William Town including a 600m extension of the runway and addition of extra taxiways and buildings.
The project was to provide underground infiltration channels for the roadways and car parks. Because of the use of heavy vehicle on the base and the presence of aircraft on adjacent runways and taxiing bays it was decided to use 7plate configured Atlantis® modules.
These were in two configurations:
- a flo-channel type one configuration which comprises a channel of two double 7 plate Atlantis® Flo-channel™ modules side by side, wrapped in Atlantis™ 125gsm hydrophilic non-woven punched polypropylene geotextile and surrounded by a layer of clean sand; and
- a flo-channel type two configuration which comprises a channel having a central core of two double 7 plate Atlantis® Flo-channel™ modules side by side, with one double 7 plate Atlantis® Flo-tank® module on each side of the core, all wrapped in Atlantis™125gsm hydrophilic non-woven punched polypropylene geotextile and surrounded by a layer of clean sand.
Each double module was assembled in Sydney and shipped to William Town Air Base in truck loads of 126. Whilst this increased the
